Last Minute Hotels

It's still early in the year but it won't be long until Christmas hits again and the inevitable chaos that comes with it – it’s true that the majority of us are already secretly planning our next break. After all, often there’s little about Christmas that constitutes a ‘break’, with presents to wrap, people to see and parties to attend.

So, where to go? If you let it, the mind will quickly wander off to a Caribbean island (ah, bliss!) – but there’s a lot to be said about simply staying on home soil and getting away from it all here in the UK.

With no flights to catch and no passport to renew, there’s something quite exciting about jumping in the car and checking into a hotel, wherever you might choose.

To help you, we’ve picked out our five favourite UK-based hotels for a last-minute New Year break.

1 - The Hilton Grosvenor, Edinburgh - Mere metres away from Edinburgh’s train station, this chic, contemporary hotel can be found in a historic 1860s listed building. It’s particularly stunning in the run up to Christmas, but it makes an equally great spot to see in the New Year. Alternatively, head there at the beginning of 2016 to ward off the dreaded January blues.

Located in the stylish West End of the city, the hotel is housed over two buildings and is the perfect place to enjoy everything from shopping to sightseeing.

2 - Flemings Mayfair, London - Located in the prestigious Mayfair in the capital city, Flemings Mayfair is within easy access of Green Park and a short walk from Oxford Street and the main shopping destinations in the ‘Big Smoke’. If you’re looking for a great place to stay via hotel booking sites, this should certainly be it. Enjoy afternoon tea from its restaurant and book one of the hotel’s gorgeous suites, before relaxing foe the evening in front of your favourite TV show.

3 - The Grand Hotel, York - With a name like ‘The Grand’, you’re unlikely to be disappointed when staying here – it really is ideal when you’re looking for hotel breaks with the wow factor. Plus, York has so much to offer; from the beautiful cobbled streets of The Shambles, to the stunning Minster, and tourist hotspots like The Dungeons and Yorvic Viking Centre. There’s more than enough to do for a weekend here – get booked in and see if there’s any hotel and dinner deals to be snapped up while you’re at it!

4 - The Lowry, Manchester - On Manchester’s Chapel Wharf is The Lowry – a haunt of footballers and other celebs visiting the city. It’s earned its five-star reputation thanks to its first class service, dining experience and stunning spa – which is open 24 hours for round-the-clock pampering. Book a hotel break here and you certainly won’t be disappointed.

5 - Lancaster House Hotel, Lancaster - A popular choice for weddings, this stunning hotel on the outskirts of Lancaster (in the north west) has a spa and a popular restaurant from which to enjoy some of the area’s finest produce. Serving Morecambe Bay potted shrimps – a favourite of the Queen – the hotel is a real hit with local foodies and is just a 10-minute drive from the centre of the city.
