DC Pensions Manager - Welwyn Garden City

The Pensions team sit within the Centre of Expertise. The teams key priorities are to:

  • Provide pensions knowledge and expertise so that we manage our DB and DC pension schemes well.
  • Ensure we communicate the benefits of scheme membership in a way that is easy to understand and attractive to participate in.
  • Work with Trustee and Governance committees to ensure that the schemes are well managed and comply with regulatory requirements.

This role is predominantly focused on managing the day to day delivery of Tesco's defined contribution retirement savings plan (the "DC Plans"), including managing the relationship with our external pensions provider. The DC plans include:

  • The Tesco Retirement Savings Plan
  • The Tesco Isle of Man Retirement Savings Plan
  • The Tesco Savings Plan
  • One Stop Pension Plan


Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the roles key responsibilities and measures.

You will be responsible for:

  • Working with the external pensions provider and other Tesco departments to ensure that our DC Plans are being run in line with the deed and rules. This includes the monitoring of management information
  • Acting as secretary to the Plans governance committee, trustees, including taking responsibility for preparing meeting packs and recording minutes of meetings
  • Working with the pensions communications manager to help implement the pensions communication plans
  • Managing the life assurance contracts in place with our external insurers to ensure full levels of cover are maintained for Tesco colleagues
  • Answering technical questions arising in relation to the DC Plans, including liaising with external advisers and our legal advisers, where required
  • Sharing Pensions best practice with Tescos subsidiaries and overseas businesses
  • Supporting Tesco in influencing developments in the UK and Europe in relation to occupational pension schemes, both directly and via retail and wider industry groups
  • Overseeing all day to day operational aspects of the Plans
  • Managing the Tesco Savings Plan, including preparation and submission of contributions to provider and dealing with colleague queries
  • Quality assurance of Bengaluru DC back office team emails and phone calls
  • Supporting a variety of annual projects including the Tesco total reward statement and mailing to high earners

  • Strong knowledge of Annual Allowance and Lifetime Allowance rules
