The Oxfordshire Golf Hotel & Spa – Thame, Oxfordshire

The Oxfordshire Golf, Hotel and Spa, part of the Leaderboard Group, is recruiting for a casual (zero hours) Greenkeeper to work within the Greenkeeping team responsible for the maintenance and development of the golf course and associated areas, ensuring high standards are maintained at all times. This is a seasonal role which operates through the months of April to September.

The Greenkeeper will report directly into the Course Manager, and will be an integral part of the team.

Salary: Competitive hourly rate

Greenkeeper Key Accountabilities:

Maintain the greens, fairways, trees etc to the required standard ensuring even wear and tear through effective green keeping practices.

Typical tasks and knowledge required:

  • Mowing banks, rough and semi rough areas, surrounds and approaches, tees, greens and fairways.
  • Scarifying/verticutting turf and aerating turf.
  • Applying nutrition and top dressing.
  • Repairing divots
  • Irrigating turf
  • Identifying and controlling weeds/Identifying and controlling pests
  • Identifying and control of turf diseases and disorders
  • Preparing ground to establish turf
  • Establishing turf
  • Identifying grasses on the golf course
  • Marking of hazards, out of bounds and ground under repair
  • Moving tee markers
  • Maintaining bunkers
  • Maintaining golf course furniture
  • Changing holes
  • Rolling turf
  • Driving a tractor with implements*
  • Undertaking routine machine maintenance*
  • Preparing machinery for use*
  • Preparing machinery for storage*
  • Measuring green speed and interpreting the results
  • The rules of golf relating to golf course maintenance
  • Preparing ground to establish plants on the golf course
  • Establishing plants on the golf course
  • Maintaining trees and shrubs on the golf course

* Subject to any age restrictions established under health and safety law and the need to have sufficient training. There are also restrictions concerning the pruning of trees at height which must be observed.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • NVQ Level 2 qualification in Greenkeeping would be beneficial but not essential as training will be provided.
  • Previous experience working on a Golf Course is desirable.

Working hours will be as and when required, and will be subject to business requirements.
