Apprentice Greenkeeper - Full Time

The Oxfordshire Golf Hotel & Spa - Thame, Oxfordshire**

As an apprentice Greenkeeper working at The Oxfordshire Golf, Hotel and Spa, you will join our team of experienced Greenkeepers who are responsible for the maintenance and development of our Championship golf course and associated areas.

Over the course of the apprenticeship you will gain experience of all aspects of golf course management and maintenance and will have the opportunity to be introduced to all golf course equipment and machinery.

Greenkeepers work early mornings and in all weather conditions and are involved in physically demanding work so these are things you can also expect to experience as an integral part of the Greenkeeping team.

Your training will be a mixture of on and off the job training that will be delivered by our experienced greenkeeping staff who have a wide range of skills, alongside Abingdon and Witney College.

At the end of your apprenticeship you will leave with a recognised qualification and some valuable experience and knowledge to take into your future career. There may be the opportunity to secure a full-time position with us after you have finished your apprenticeship, dependant on business needs.

The day to day tasks will include :

  • Mowing banks, rough and semi rough areas, surrounds and approaches, tees, greens and fairways
  • Scarifying/verticutting turf and aerating turf
  • Applying nutrition and top dressing
  • Repairing divots
  • Irrigating turf
  • Identifying and controlling weeds/Identifying and controlling pests
  • Identifying and control of turf diseases and disorders
  • Preparing ground to establish turf
  • Establishing turf
  • Identifying grasses on the golf course
  • Marking of hazards, out of bounds and ground under repair
  • Moving tee markers
  • Maintaining bunkers
  • Maintaining golf course furniture
  • Changing holes
  • Rolling turf
  • Driving a tractor with implements
  • Undertaking routine machine maintenance
  • Preparing machinery for use
  • Preparing machinery for storage
  • Preparing ground to establish plants on the golf course

Your working week will be an average of 40 hours per week but will adjust through the year dependant on daylight hours.
