Technical Demonstrator (Quarry Bank) - Wilmslow

Summary

Join our great team as a Technical Demonstrator at Quarry Bank, one of Britain’s best industrial heritage sites. You will be joining a team of 13 passionate demonstrators, working with a daily team of 5, so you’ll always have someone close by to support you. The role combines running the textile machinery whilst interacting with our visitors.
Full training will be provided and starts in the hand spinning and weaving area, learning to spin on a spinning wheel and weave on our hand looms. With time you’ll learn to run all the textile machinery.
Working pattern is Tuesday, Wednesday and Sundays in the summer season and Wednesdays and Sundays in the winter season.

What you'll be doing

The role combines running the textile machinery whilst interacting with visitors, tour and school groups. You’ll be describing what it was like to work in the mill during the 18th and 19th centuries for both adults and children, explaining how the machines process the cotton from bale to thread to cloth. You’ll also be contributing to the manufacturing of cloth on our historic machinery which is sold in our shop. Our cloth is unique to Quarry Bank and sets us apart from other historical places of interest.  You’ll also be responsible for delivering maintenance of the machinery which includes cleaning, oiling and repairs. 
Personal development is important, this includes furthering your knowledge of the machinery and the history of Quarry Bank, developing onto training others and supporting our team of volunteers. 

Who we're looking for

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate experience of working in a team, knowledge of health & safety and a background in interpretation. A creative background with an eye for detail as well as a practical experience working with textiles and a working knowledge/or interest in textile machinery is preferable.
